A Washington, D.C.-based government accountability group has nominated Gov. Andrew Cuomo as its May “Scoundrel of the Month” for a alleged lack of transparency in official communications from his staff.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a nonpartisan nonprofit, previously called for state Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman to investigate Cuomo”™s office after press reports said the governor”™s top aides were using private email accounts and untraceable text messages to conduct official business.
Visitors to the nonprofit”™s website can vote to choose May”™s Scoundrel of the Month, with Cuomo facing off against five other candidates including Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki and New York”™s Rep. Michael Grimm, who was indicted last month on corruption charges.
The nonprofit, called CREW for short, releases an annual “Most Corrupt” list of federal politicians and previously ranked Cuomo on a list of “Worst Governors.”
Cuomo is seeking re-election this year and is facing a challenge from Rob Astorino, Westchester’s county executive.
Cuomo has done more to hurt New York sportsmen and women than any single person in this state’s history. The “SAFE” (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) Act was debated in closed session without committee hearings, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed it into law within an hour of its passage — after waiving the required three-day public comment period. This 80 page legislation was passed late into the night… literally and figuratively under the cover of darkness. There existed no exigent need as claimed, of the Act’s 60 sections, only three (3) took effect on its adoption into law. Cuomo bragged that New York now has the “toughest assault weapons ban” in the country but claimed that the law respects the Second Amendment and preserves the rights of “hunters and sportsmen.” The former is true; the latter is not.
The implementation of SAFE Act is not only going to cost NY state 36 million dollars a year, it has created a hostile environment for both in-state and out of state sports men and women and shooting enthusiasts who now risk committing felony crimes for the countless technical criminal violations created by the SAFE Act for possessing items which can be purchased over the counter in all our neighboring states. He will be requiring criminal checks for the simple purchase of ammunition. My Remington R25 is now classified as an assault rifle and when i die, it cannot be passed on to my wife or children. It will be confiscated by NY State if not sold outside the state. This is the rifle I use to harvest deer at the local apple farm, so that the farmer’s crops are not decimated by deer eating his crops. Cuomo’s Gotta GO! Rob Astorino will be New York’s NEXT Governor. Cuomo is hated in upstate NY. Remember, less than 30% of the vote that determines who our next governor is comes from NY City. Bye-bye Benedict Andy Cuomo!
