Gov. Dannel P. Malloy joined 14 other state governors July 17 in an appeal to leadership at the U.S. House of Representatives to pass an immigration reform bill that gives undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship.
Late last month Senate members passed a similar bill that would clear the way for citizenship for immigrants, attract new workers from around the world and bolster the country’s security along the U.S.-Mexico border.
To show their support for the legislation, Malloy and the group of governors signed a letter addressed to House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, urging further action.
“Now that the Senate has done its work, the House of Representatives should act without delay to pass similar legislation so that we can begin to build an immigration system that reflects our nation”™s values and strengthens our economies,” the letter said. “We all recognize that immigrants contribute a great deal to our economy and our culture. We should make sure they are fully integrated into the social, civic and economic fabric of American life and have access to the same opportunities to succeed as everyone else.”
