Commuters can expect to pay a little bit more on their Friday morning train ride. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority”™s (MTA) fare hikes will go into effect, with increases between 7 and 9 percent, to help close a $450 million budget gap.
Fare hikes will also impact New York City buses and subways, and the Bee Line bus service.
A one-way off-peak ticket from White Plains to Grand Central Terminal will increase from $7.75 to $8.50, while a peak ticket will increase from $10.50 to $11.25. A monthly pass from White Plains to Grand Central will now cost $249, up from $229.
Over the next six years, the MTA will raise fares three times. This is the fourth time in the last five years that the MTA has increased fares.
