”˜Riverfest: 25 Years”™ poster exhibit

Narrowsburg-based Delaware Art Center”™s Loft Gallery is featuring “Riverfest: 25 Years,” an exhibit of approximately 50 posters from 25 years of Riverfest, May 15 to June 6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays, 37 Main St., Narrowsburg. Riverfest, a music, art and environmental festival, was created to bring attention to the businesses on Main Street. This year”™s annual event is being held July 26, featuring a dog parade, music on the bandstand, crafts, environmental displays and art.

Open Space Institute announces award winners

New York-based Open Space Institute, an organization that protects scenic, natural and historic landscapes to provide employment, conserve habitat and sustain communities, announced the winners of its Barnabus McHenry”™s Hudson Valley Awards, presented to young leaders working in support of the Hudson River valley.

Rockland sheriff honored

The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, a nonprofit that raises awareness for the restoration of Ellis Island, honored Louis Falco III, sheriff for Rockland County, with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The Ellis Island Medals of Honor are presented to citizens who have distinguished themselves within their ethnic groups while impacting their communities.

Falco joins a list of award recipients that includes six U.S. presidents, Nobel Prize winners and leaders of industry, education, the arts, sports and government.

Sharpen your resume

Bronxville”™s Sarah Lawrence College is featuring a five-week summer course titled, “Writing Cover Letters, Bios and Resumes that Get Results,” led by Suzanne Grossberg, former professor for SUNY New Paltz, Thursdays, May 28 to June 25, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sarah Lawrence campus in Yonkers. Bristal celebrates 70th anniversary of VE-Day

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE-Day, May 8, 1945, which marked the end of the war in Europe, the Bristal at White Plains assisted living community honored 13 residents who are veterans of World War II. The veterans were recognized in a ceremony attended by Bristal residents and city and county officials. White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach presented a proclamation honoring the veterans and Ron Tocci, director of the Westchester County Veteran Services Agency, presented the veterans with a Westchester County Certificate of Service and a service medal.

Saturno graduates NYU program

Sherry Saturno, executive director of the Hudson Valley Care Coalition in Tarrytown, graduated April 27 from New York University Silver School of Social Work”™s National Social Work Leadership Program. Saturno completed the post-graduate, 18-month program with a presentation making a business case for care management. She holds master”™s degrees from Columbia University and Long Island University.

Atlantic Westchester sponsors challenge

Bedford Hills-based Atlantic Westchester, a commercial and industrial heating, ventilation and air conditioning business, is sponsoring the Westchester Green Business Challenge, June 4, 5 to 7:30 p.m., Crowne Plaza White Plains. The sponsorship will help educate and encourage businesses in Westchester County to become more environmentally friendly.

NHA awards NYPA”™s Suloway

Washington, D.C.-based The National Hydropower Association honored John Suloway of Ossining with the Dr. Kenneth Henwood Award at a ceremony during the association”™s annual conference. The Henwood Award is given in recognition of lifetime of achievement and is NHA”™s most prestigious award. Suloway recently retired from the New York Power Authority after a career spanning 32 years.

Chaplin as new director for Vassar

Vassar College appointed Rabbi Kerry Chaplin as the new director for Jewish student life and the assistant director for the office of religious and spiritual life, beginning mid-August. This month, she is receiving her master”™s in rabbinic studies and her rabbinic ordination from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles.

‘Let’s Do Lunch’ raises $30,000

Yonkers”™ St. Elizabeth Seton Children”™s Foundation hosted its first “Cherish the Child” event, “Let”™s Do Lunch!” May 8 at the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center. The event raised nearly $30,000 in support of the children who received services at the center, the John A. Coleman School and Children”™s Rehabilitation Center. The event concluded as Pat Tursi, CEO of the center, presented the first annual St. Elizabeth Seton Legacy Award to Patrice McDermott, social action club coordination, The Ursuline School; Eileen Davidson, president of The Ursuline School; and Carol Killebrew, principal of The Ursuline School.

Janet Fields Memorial Garden at Northern Westchester Hospital

The Janet Fields Memorial Garden, a garden of healing for patients, their families, caregivers, employees and volunteers, is opening at Northern Westchester Hospital. The garden is being donated by the Fields and Bauer families, in memory of their daughter and sister, Janet. Donations can be made to purchase a brick on the sidewalk, engraved with your name, the name of a loved one, thanking/honoring a doctor or nurse or celebrating a special occasion. Central Hudson supports Family Services

Poughkeepsie-based Family Services Inc., a nonprofit, received a $5,000 donation from Poughkeepsie-based Central Hudson to support its 2015 initiatives. In addition to financial support, Central Hudson has a long tradition of providing volunteer leadership with the organization, including Family Services Inc.”™s current board chairman, Paul E. Haering, vice president of engineering for Central Hudson.
