HealthBridge Management L.L.C. nursing home workers went on strike Tuesday at facilities in Danbury, Stamford and Westport, due in part to a new contract they say makes health insurance unaffordable.
More than 500 HealthBridge  workers walked off the job, including at facilities in Milford and Newington. The Associated Press reported HealthBridge, based in Fort Lee, N.J., had previously stated it would keep the homes operating during the strike without detailing any plans for replacement workers.
The workers”™ Hartford-based union SEIU Healthcare 1199 NE says the company”™s most recent contract offer would cost each member $10,000 annually on average.
Strikes are underway at:
Ӣ Danbury Health Care Center;
Ӣ Long Ridge of Stamford;
Ӣ Newington Health Care Center;
Ӣ West River Health Care Center in Milford; and
Ӣ Westport Health Care Center.
