UK’s singing mailboxes offer holiday season serenades
Many U.K. residents sending their December greetings via the Royal Mail may enjoy an extra tuneful of happiness when they post their holiday season cards and letters.
The Royal Mail has installed four singing Christmas mailboxes that will serenade the public when they post their cards and letters this month. The red and gold postboxes are decorated with snowmen, snowflakes and gold stars and offer such December favorites as “Jingle Bells,” “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” and “Deck The Halls.”
The mailboxes are located on major commercial thoroughfares in the major cities of the four U.K. countries – on Oxford Street in London, on George Square in Glasgow, on Donegal Square West in Belfast and on Union Street in Swansea.
“This is Royal Mail’s busiest time of the year,” said Nick Landon, chief commercial officer at Royal Mail. “December sees about twice as many letters, cards and parcels as other months. At Royal Mail, we’re geared up to help with all your festive preparations, whether that’s delivering the nation’s love and best wishes through Christmas cards, or the presents that tens of millions of people will be shopping online for right now. This year we’re adding some extra festive joy and cheer for people sending their letters and Christmas cards to loved ones through our amazing singing postboxes. Have a very Merry Christmas!”
