Former Vice President Mike Pence, speaking with reporters at the Indiana State Fair on Aug. 2, repudiated Former President Donald Trump for attempting to pressure him into cooperating with a scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election so that Trump could remain in power. Pence would have remained in office as vice president had the alleged scheme been successful.

Pence, who figures prominently in the narrative presented in the indictment of Trump on four felonies in connection with his failed coup, is expected to testify when the case against Trump brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith goes to trial.

Trump pleaded “not guilty” in a Washington, D.C., federal court on Aug. 3. The parties are next due in court Aug. 28 when Judge Tanya Chutkan is expected to set a date for the trial to begin.
