Nokia vs. Qualcomm in U.K. court
Nokia, with regional offices in White Plains, said last week it is confident the United Kingdom High Court will find that the devices it makes do not infringe on patents held by San Diego-based Qualcomm Inc.
Qualcomm has declared the patents are “essential” to GSM ”“ or Global System for Mobile ”“ communications technology standards.
The hearing of the case, originally filed by Qualcomm in May last year, got underway at the High Court in London today.
Nokia said it expects the trial to last about three weeks.
Qualcomm is seeking an injunction against an unknown number of Nokia products based on GSM, the most popular mobile phone standard in the world.
An injunction would prevent the sale in the U.K. of those products containing the patents.
