Manhattanville College, USTA to offer tennis management degree

Manhattanville College has partnered with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and will offer a professional tennis management degree program beginning in the spring of 2018.

With the new program, Manhattanville becomes one of seven NCAA institutions offering the professional tennis management degree. The curriculum will prepare graduates for careers in the industry including tennis teaching professionals, club managers and directors of tennis.

Nikhil Kumar, vice president of undergraduate enrollment management at the independent liberal arts college, said this degree further positions Manhattanville as a leader in sports education and will give students a plethora of internship and job opportunities in the sports industry. The new program will also offer students on-court playing and coaching development, online coursework and a USTA certificate.

“It is important to create opportunities and support the development of students aspiring to work in the tennis industry,” said Scott Schultz, managing director of USTA University, a recently announced professional development initiative aimed at preparing the next generation of tennis industry professionals.
West Harrison-based USTA is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the U.S.
“We are extremely proud to partner with Manhattanville College by providing the skills and experience needed for students to succeed as leaders in the sport,” Schultz said.

Manhattanville, which previously sponsored both men”™s and women”™s tennis until 2012, will add varsity tennis programs to its offerings in the 2018-19 season.
