HRHCare receives $8 million grant for care of vulnerable, uninsured patients

Nonprofit health center HRHCare received $8,306,360 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health to provide care to vulnerable and uninsured people across the Hudson Valley and Long Island.

The grant, announced by U.S. Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, will support primary and oral health care, as well as other services such as counseling and translation services for patients.
“This funding will allow HRHCare to continue providing crucial primary, preventative, behavioral and oral health care, along with enabling and care coordination services to all patients regardless of their financial situation,” said Anne Kauffman Nolon, HRHCare president and CEO.

Gillibrand called HRHCare “a lifeline” for many New York families, adding that the funding will help the organization “invest in additional resources to provide quality health services to those who need care most.”

Founded in 1975 and formerly named Hudson River HealthCare, the organization operates 28 primary care sites in the Hudson Valley and Long Island, including centers in Peekskill, Yonkers and Beacon. HRHCare serves roughly 176,000 patients, 31 percent of whom are uninsured.
“Hudson River HealthCare is a critical operation, and this federal funding will support its mission to provide high quality care to all those who need it most,” Schumer said.

The grant funding was allocated through the Health Resources & Services Administration, which provides rural and geographically isolated communities with access to quality healthcare.
