Canyon Club gets new name
The Canyon Club, the 156-acre private country club in Armonk, has been renamed Brynwood Golf & Country Club by its new owners.
A New York City investment group, Canyon Club Partners II L.L.C, bought the 36-year-old club late last year from a Mitsubishi International Corp. affiliate. The owners in December hired Troon Golf, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., to manage the club.
Troon, which manages more than 200 golf courses in 31 states and 26 countries, is working with owners to implement a phased improvement plan, including an interior renovation of the 65,000-square-foot clubhouse led by Hart Howerton, the award-wining New York City architectural and design firm. The club”™s tennis and pool facilities also will be upgraded and a new fitness area and equipment, other recreational amenities and a new fleet of Club Car golf carts will be added. Troon management also plans to focus on golf instruction and player development for members.
The club will be closed this winter for improvements and will reopen in April.
Jeffrey B. Mendell, a principal in the club”™s new ownership and an Armonk resident, said the club”™s membership drive for 2010 already has had “a tremendous response.” He added, “We are very confident that with the changes now underway, Brynwood Golf & Country Club will emerge as the private club of choice for area residents and families looking for attractive pricing in a full-service country club, with outstanding golf and tennis, upgraded facilities, first-rate food and beverage and many other amenities and programs.”
