NY State Senate approves hotel tax; bills head to Cuomo

The New York State Senate approved legislation over the weekend authorizing certain municipalities to impose an up to 3 percent hotel/motel occupancy tax on guests.

The series of bills, approved in the early morning hours on Saturday, included Harrison, Tuckahoe, Port Chester, Mamaroneck, North Castle and the town of Greenburgh, along with the villages of Tarrytown, Irvington, Ardsley, Elmsford, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson and Sleepy Hollow.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo will have 10 days to veto or approve the legislation.

Last year, Cuomo vetoed a series of bills that would have created a 3 percent hotel occupancy tax in certain Westchester municipalities, saying that if there was to be a policy change on this issue, “it should be done pursuant to a comprehensive and determinative statewide policy as advanced by the Legislature.”
