Modell’s sets opening for Mount Kisco store
Modell”™s Sporting Goods will open the doors of a new 12,800-square-foot store at 162 East Main St. in downtown Mount Kisco on Aug. 25.
Sitting in what was formerly the site of Borders Books and Music, the retail space was scaled down from 16,700 square feet following concerns voiced by planning board members.
The sports retailer will take up only part of the building that was abandoned in 2011 after Michigan-based Borders filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The rest of the 22,600-square-foot space remains vacant.
The property is co-owned by Stephen Lerner, founder of Lerner Properties, his cousin Richard Grobman and Modell”™s. The companies acquired the space from Miami Beach-based Kisco Retail LLC in July 2015 for $6.3 million.
The retailer said on its website that it will open a new Brooklyn store on Aug. 25, as well.
Modell”™s has six other stores in Westchester: Yonkers, Pelham Manor, New Rochelle, Greenburgh, Port Chester and Mohegan Lake.
