The work of seven Hudson Valley photographers will be featured in an exhibit at Arts Mid-Hudson that opens Sept. 8 with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., and runs through Oct. 29. These photographers participate in the monthly photo salon held at Arts Mid-Hudson. The works that were selected for the exhibit represent their use of photography to express individual visions.
Photographer David Curtis created a body of work based on reflections ”” how light can be bounced around and images distorted. “Group input inspired me to experiment further with my auto-reflections, both on location and in the digital darkroom. I”™ve learned and grown as a photographer from the experience,” Curtis said.
Claudia Gorman focused her work on sand dunes photographed at Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado and Death Valley National Park in California, inspired by photographers Brett and Edward Weston and Ansel Adams.
Other salon members include Arlene Becker, Raimundo Carlos Gaby Júnior, Juliet Harrison, Paolo Nigris and Barbara Todd. Gaby Júnior said, “Our group could be used as a metaphor for the power of photography itself. Photography can raise consciousness through pushing us to see things differently, to pay attention. Images are powerful. Their power lies in the fact that they can transport us to places not previously visited, allowing us to dream by carrying us to worlds beyond ours.”
