Westchester County Police received their first electric patrol vehicle
The Westchester County Department of Public Safety has obtained its first all-electric marked patrol vehicle, which will be assigned to the County Police precinct in the village of Mount Kisco.
The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is the first all-electric vehicle to meet the rigorous road-testing standards used by the Michigan State Police ”“ which, along with the Los Angeles County Sheriff”™s Department, established standards for police departments using electric vehicles. The new patrol vehicle has a 480-hoursepower engine and can go zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The vehicle has a range of about 270 miles before needing a charge and the county government estimated that it will produce a minimum of $2,500 in fuel cost savings over the next five years.
“There is ample evidence that electric-powered vehicles don”™t experience the wear and tear that gasoline-powered vehicles do, and therefore do not need to come of the road as often for regular maintenance,” said Westchester County Department of Public Works & Transportation Commissioner Hugh Greechan.
