Gas prices stabilize ahead of Memorial Day weekend

With the Memorial Day weekend two weeks away, national and regional gas prices held steady in the latest data report from AAA.

As of this morning, the national average for a gallon of regular gas was $3.54, down slightly from the $3.56 price one week before and down from the $3.66 from one month ago. The average price was $4.41 one year ago.

In Connecticut, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas was $3.53, a penny below the national average. This is lower than the $3.56 from a week ago one week ago but up from the $3.44 from one month earlier; one year ago, the price was $4.37. Fairfield County had the highest price among the state”™s counties at $3.60.

Across the state line, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas was $3.67, 13 cents higher than the national average. Similar to Connecticut”™s pricing, today”™s average is below the price from one week ago ($3.69) but higher than last month”™s average ($3.56); one year ago, the price was $4.56. Within the Hudson Valley region, Westchester had the highest average at $3.76 while Orange and Ulster counties had the lowest average at $3.63.

“Increasing demand for gasoline would usually drive pump prices higher,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “But the cost for oil has remained low lately, so drivers should benefit from stable pump prices as Memorial Day drawers near.”
