Yorktown to receive new cell phone tower
The Town Board for Yorktown has approved a permit and lease that enables the construction of a new cell phone tower.
The Town Board approved a wetlands permit and lease for Homeland Towers LLC to build the tower on a town-owned lot near the intersection of Route 6 and Hill Boulevard in the Jefferson Valley neighborhood, which has a history of spotty cell phone service. The tower will support transmitters for at least four wireless carriers and the town”™s public service entities.
“The Town Board decided to issue the wetlands permit after we reviewed all the facts,” said Supervisor Tom Diana. “We determined that the tower will not have a significant environmental impact. In fact, our resolution calls for the wetland to be improved and protected by the installation of new native plants, including 21 trees, 23 shrubs and 300 perennials. Our resolution also calls for planting over 4,000 square feet of native flowering seeds in the wetland.”
