The current legislative session has seen more talk “about pizza than affordable housing,” Connecticut Conference of Municipalities Executive Director and CEO Joe DeLong said.
“Instead of looking at somebody else’s garden and trying to steal the fruit and bring it over, we need to be planting seeds here – seeds of talent and investment that will grow themselves," said former Lamont administration policy adviser Nick Simmons.
The result – consisting of transforming a portion of the parking area between Bedford Street and the Bedford Garage -- will benefit eight local businesses.
The idea of closing Greenwich Avenue to help restaurants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic was supported by First Selectman Fred Camillo.
Instead, Stamford Downtown -- which sponsors the concert series -- is focusing on a number of other activities, including developing a block-by-block strategy to enable restaurants to use a greater amount of the public space (sidewalks and streets) for outdoor dining.
The program is geared to appeal to a wide range of Stamford’s demographic population, with a goal of activating five to 10 storefronts this year.
