So-called "Bidencare" and Connecticut lawmakers' consideration of adding a public option could benefit the state's uninsured, AHCT CEO James Michel says.
Soon after the ratification of the hospital agreement came word that a federal appeals court has ruled that the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate is unconstitutional, in light of the U.S. Congress’ elimination of the tax penalty that was intended to enforce it.
The survey reported that, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the national uninsured rate rose in 2018 to 8.5% from 7.9% in 2017 -- the first year there was an increase since the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, took effect.
“We are committed to upholding the ACA and the support it provides to the residents of our state,” said AHCT CEO James Michel.
The department ruled that the average increase for individual plans is 2.72 percent, down from the average request of about 12 percent.
The proposed average individual rate increase request is 12.3 percent, while the proposed average small group rate increase is 10.22 percent.
The bills differ significantly when it comes to penalizing citizens who forgo health care coverage.

"It is infuriating that these assaults will not stop,” said Gov. Dannel Malloy.
Insurance Department Commissioner Katharine Wade has ordered Anthem and ConnectiCare to revise their rate filings again and resubmit them this week.
Wadleigh's concerns include continued attempts at repealing Obamacare, and the possible exit from the exchange of its two remaining insurers.
