Groupe Aeroports de Paris and the company currently managing Stewart, AvPORTS Management, are being brought together to form Future Stewart Partners.
When Norwegian introduced the overseas service at Stewart, it offered low-cost fares, with some one-way fares under $100.
The airline reported a first-quarter operating loss of $172 million on sales of approximately $1.2 billion.
Norwegian Air is operating the larger airplane on a temporary, daily basis between Stewart Airport in New Windsor and Dublin Airport in Ireland.
“Our affordable U.S. flights were launched with the prospect of a reduction in air passenger taxes that was unfortunately postponed by the Scottish government. This has forced us to fully withdraw our transatlantic services to and from Edinburgh, as it would not be a sustainable operation,” Anders Lindström said.
“Enhancing our route network is a top priority, and we’re always in discussions with domestic and international carriers about the addition of new nonstops," said Kevin A. Dillon, executive director of the airport's owner and operator.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said the rebranding "will help promote the entire Mid-Hudson Valley region and build on the remarkable passenger growth over the past year."
Currently, the fare-cutting, long-haul airline flies to Edinburgh four times a week and to Shannon three times a week.
The low-cost airline will continue to serve the region with its route from Stewart International Airport in New Windsor, New York.
“This is a stress-free environment for aviation to grow,” said Ed Harrison, Stewart International Airport's general manager. “And our strategic aviation assets that we have in the New York metropolitan area, Stewart will play an important part in the growth of the region.”
