Sports betting could be legalized in time for the NFL season, which is scheduled to begin on Sept. 9.
“We’re just following multiple states in establishing some sports betting in our state," says Rep. Joseph Gresko (D-Stratford). "This way we keep that potential revenue here in the State of Connecticut.”

In its motion, Interior argues that the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act cited by MGM is not relevant to the case because the nations are not looking to build a casino on tribal lands.
“MGM pursues litigation because that's what MGM does,” said Andrew Doba, spokesman for the tribes' MMCT joint venture.
The two federally recognized tribes aren't willing to trade their already approved joint venture in East Windsor for the rights to a Bridgeport casino.
But a spokesman for Gov. Ned Lamont said the proposed bill "falls short of what the governor wants for Bridgeport."
The proposal "puts the state at increased and immediate litigation risk from multiple parties," according to a spokesperson for Gov. Ned Lamont.
The suit alleged that the agency failed to take action on approving the East Windsor facility due to pressure from MGM Resorts and Republican lawmakers in Nevada.
“We believe our proposed world-class entertainment complex in Bridgeport is the best option for creating new jobs and revenue, and we will vigorously advocate for our legal rights,” said MGM Resorts International.
Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen is warning the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes not to move forward with plans to build and open a new casino in East Windsor without federal regulatory approval.
The report by a consultant to the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes maintains that a new casino would need to generate $1.083 billion in gross gaming revenue annually to offset revenue lost from Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.
