Sikorsky is an exception to the workforce dilemma, according to its president, Paul Lemmo; the Stratford firm hired about 1,000 people last year and has added another 600 so far in 2021.
Included are matching grants for digital readiness and cybersecurity assessments, more engineering internships, and a single website where manufacturers can find answers to the issues and challenges they face.
The grants "will help our brilliant manufacturers across the state continue to innovate, building bigger, faster, and more complex machines that drive our state, country, and world further into the 21st century," says Gov. Ned Lamont.
“The consensus out there – before the pandemic and now – is that there are three top problems: Workforce development, workforce development, and workforce development,” declares Colin Cooper.
The Manufacturing Innovation Fund board has retooled its Manufacturing Voucher Program in order to provide grants of up to $75,000 to companies that adjust production to make in-demand medical equipment.
In 2017 alone, over 4,500 full-time employees completed training that resulted in upgraded skills and increased productivity.
Since its 2014 launch, the MVP has awarded 214 grants to more than 180 advanced-manufacturing companies.
