“Modernizing our gaming industry will help protect and create Connecticut jobs, and it will generate tax revenues to the benefit of both state and local municipal budgets, as well as our tribe’s member,” said James Gessner Jr., chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Council, which operates Mohegan Sun.
Offerings at the state’s tribal casinos are still dependent on approval from the U.S. Department of Interior.
“We have some incredible plans for the retail space at Mohegan Sun, with the potential to be the largest FanDuel sportsbook in the United States,” said Amy Howe, president of FanDuel Group.
“This short-term step allows for the continuation of fantasy sports in Connecticut as we continue to move forward to modernize our gaming landscape in Connecticut,” Gov. Ned Lamont said.
“It’s been quite a ride,” says Jason Guyot. “Business levels still haven’t picked up to where they were pre-pandemic, and we’re still off on the revenue side.”
Sportech, which operates Bobby V's in Stamford, believes that "courts will hold that this bill violates the equal protection clauses of the United States and Connecticut Constitutions, and the emoluments clause of the state Constitution."
