HHC CEO Jeff Flaks said his organization was dedicated to “investing in this city’s revitalization” by partnering with the city, Mayor Joe Ganim and the venue.
Three concerts scheduled for the summer were shifted to other venues.
The venue has yet to announce an official opening date.
Developer Howard Saffan says “a combination of Murphy’s Law and the weather" delayed the venue's opening by more than a year -- and that its original $15 million budget has been exceeded "dramatically."
Having broken ground in July 2018, the amphitheater – originally scheduled to open this past spring, then this summer – is now looking at a 2020 debut.
"The $25 million needed for this project is finally in place," said Ganim about the long-stalled Congress Street Bridge project.
“There are really only a couple of Class A buildings in downtown Bridgeport," said Avison Young's Christopher Grundy. "But there’s a growing number of great features and activities in the area that make it very attractive.”
Among the questions still to be addressed is how the new concert venue will peacefully coexist with the Webster Bank Arena next door.
The first glimpse of the planned design for Bridgeport’s new Harbor Yard Amphitheater was unveiled, with the project’s organizers insisting they were on target for an opening in spring 2019.
Having spent much of 2017 transforming the group's internal functions, Herbert is now focusing on developing a three-year strategic plan.
