MGM Resorts International asserted its commitment to building a casino resort in Bridgeport despite acquiring Empire City Casino and Yonkers Raceway, roughly 48 miles from the proposed Bridgeport site.
"This fight continues, and something of this magnitude typically takes time to become law," said Mayor Joe Ganim at press conference. A coalition of elected officials and business leaders gathered in Bridgeport to reaffirm their support of MGM Resorts International’s waterfront hotel & casino plan.
This effort is coming ahead of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Christie vs. the National Collegiate Athletic Association, where the New Jersey state government has challenged federal law restricting sports betting.
The senators claimed MGM Resorts International, which is opening a casino in nearby Springfield, Massachusetts, had lobbied Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to block the East Windsor project.
“A competitive process will bring Connecticut the best deal, in terms of jobs, economic development, community benefits and support for our local businesses,” start Rep. Chris Rosario said.
Two new reports are highlighting the financial and political investments that MGM Resorts International has made to secure a stake in Connecticut’s casino industry.
Data suggest southwest Connecticut, not north central, should be home to new gaming.
