Under the plan, Connecticut drivers with a transponder would pay 40 to 80 cents, medium-sized trucks would pay $1 to $2, and heavy trucks would pay $2.80 to $5.60. “Within a 24 hour period, any vehicle equipped with a transponder will not pay more than one round-trip user fee per gantry,” according to the proposal.
According to CBIA/CONNSTEP’s first Connecticut Manufacturing Report, issued at the 2019 Manufacturing Summit, workforce tops manufacturers' concerns, with 60% of poll respondents saying it was their most significant need – and 56% saying it was “difficult” to both find and retain young workers.
CT 2030 includes tolls on 14 highway bridges, instead of the 50 toll gantries on four major highways -- the Merritt Parkway and Interstates 84, 91 and 95 -- that the governor had originally proposed.
“We’ve got to hit the elephant in the room – getting our fiscal house in order,” the governor said in his remarks to the Chamber of Commerce. “I just want to get this thing going."
Gov. Ned Lamont's CT 2030 program is a 10-year plan for priority highway and rail projects intended to create less congestion, quicker commutes, and increased economic activity.
