Charles Wang became co-owner of the New York Islanders in 2000 for $187.5 million. The Islanders acquired the Sound Tigers in 2004 for an undisclosed sum.
The terms of the partnership were not disclosed, nor was there an announcement of a schedule of specific events.
Owner Joe Ladecky called for the city to reconsider the project, adding that “if the city accepts the proposal, the Sound Tigers will be forced to exercise all of their rights under the operating agreement.”
The NHL lockout hasn’t stopped the Islanders’ lower-division affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and the rest of the American Hockey League (AHL) from dropping the puck on what league executives expect to be a banner season.
