William Jennings left Bridgeport Hospital in 2018 to become president and CEO of Reading (Pennsylvania) Hospital.
The penalties are based on patients who stayed in the hospitals anytime between mid-2017 and 2019, before Covid-19.
“While these hospitals have received direct federal aid during this crisis, some of them and their affiliated practices are still experiencing financial hardship,” noted Gov. Ned Lamont.
The 25,000-square-foot facility will house 45 exam rooms and three procedure rooms for some 30 providers in a number of specialties.
Of the eight hospitals that did not realize a gain in operating revenue, only one was in Fairfield County: Norwalk Hospital.
O’Connor is also vice chairman of the Connecticut Hospital Association.
Collectively, Connecticut hospitals have been estimated to lose $1.5 billion this year as a result of the coronavirus, while those in New York State are estimated to lose as much as $13.3 billion.
Carius served on the ABMS board of directors from 2013 to 2018.
Bridgeport Hospital President Anne Diamond said that since that facility took in its first positive patient on March 19, it has received another 432, but stressed that it has discharged about 270.
The governor said that, according to Office of Policy and Management Secretary Melissa McCaw, the state has withstood about $450 million in coronavirus-related expenses. "Connecticut right now is doing better than a lot of other states," Lamont said, noting the strength of its rainy day fund.
Yale New Haven Health System CEO Marna Borgstrom said that while various models differ, “the arc of the curve (of positive cases) is slowing down and tailing off.”
The former Maternity Unit at the Milford Campus, closed several years ago because of low patient volume and insufficient physician coverage, is being renovated into a “geriatric friendly” surgical unit.
“We’re making a huge investment in technology, staff and education – we’ve had 100 technologies installed in the last six months," the new Bridgeport Hospital chief says.
Twenty-four of the state's 28 hospitals finished 2018 in the black, realizing a 5.92% profit margin, down from 2017’s 7.05%.
Twenty-six of 29 Connecticut hospitals received penalties, while on a national level, 83% of hospitals evaluated by the program were penalized by an average of 0.7%.
