Mayor Mark Boughton credits a solid budget, the addition of 900 new businesses last year, and no tax increase as reasons to be cheerful; the nine-term mayor's November opponent maintains that "we need a new vision going forward.”
“These are areas that can’t grow by themselves – they need private investment," says Betsy Paynter, executive director of redevelopment agency CityCenter Danbury.
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit at 158 Main St. has its eye on a couple of empty buildings nearby, including one 30,000-square-foot facility.
“We’re moving forward on a number of fronts, collaborating with everyone from the mayor’s office and zoning to commercial and retail developers,” says Betsy Paynter, executive director of CityCenter Danbury.
Bidders “could rent it for a dollar a year if they’re doing their own improvements,” Mayor Mark Boughton said of the 7,000-square-foot property.
"There is so much potential to build on the great work that CityCenter has already achieved, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone," said Paynter.
“We've all rolled up our sleeves to start work on achieving what everyone wants to see," says Brookfield Economic and Community Development Manager Betsy Paynter.
Brookfield’s J. Iapaluccio Inc. was awarded project with its bid of $1,699,888, with contracts signed on May 23.
