Former NY Yankees star Shane Spencer to coach Saugerties Stallions

Former New York Yankees outfielder Shane Spencer has been named as a coach for the Saugerties Stallions, a 10-week summer baseball franchise in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

“The Saugerties Stallions are thrilled to announce the addition of a 3x World Series Champion with the New York Yankees,” said the Stallions on their Facebook page. “He was a Major League player with the Yankees, Indians, Rangers and Mets and will provide an instant spark to Saugerties.”

Spencer played with the Yankees from 1998 to 2002. He divided the 2003 season with the Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians and was signed as a free agent in 2004 by the New York Mets.

He moved to Japan to join the Central League’s Hanshin Tigers for 2005 and 2006. When his playing career ended, he focused on coaching minor league teams in the U.S. and before becoming manager of the Hwaseong Heroes, the farm team of Korea Baseball Organization”™s Nexen Heroes, in 2016. He resigned from the Heroes in 2019 after a drunken driving arrest.
