Manhattanville offers degree in education, entrepreneurship

A partnership at Manhattanville College between the School of Education and School of Business has produced a new program for a Master of Education degree in entrepreneurship.

The 30-credit degree program focuses on education, such as human development, ethics and multicultural perspectives, as well as honing business skills in marketing, analytics and finance. Students also will be able to pursue personal interests with elective classes.

Manhattanville said the program is designed for people working in education-related nonprofits or businesses, or those interested in developing companies related to education, such as tutoring, consulting or publishing businesses.

“As the economy continues to pressure educational institutions and startups, those involved must become adept at being able to maintain a business focus and thus ensure the success of our educational system,” said Anthony R. Davidson, dean of the business school, in a statement.

Offering combined degrees in education and entrepreneurship is a new trend at other schools around the country, including the University of Pennsylvania, which added a master”™s degree in education entrepreneurship last year.
