The Business Council of Westchester”™s annual dinner Oct. 8 brought out 425 persons to the Hilton Rye Town in Rye Brook, where MSNBC morning-show host Joe Scarborough was keynote speaker. His MSNBC colleague, Mika Brzezinski, made a surprise appearance on the dais from her Westchester home.

Scarborough entertained the crowd with humorous recollections of his work with Brzezinski and years in politics as a conservative Republican congressman from Florida, but ended on a serious note. “We have got to re-learn civility in this country,” he said. “We”™ve got the haters outnumbered, we really do.”

Business Council President and CEO Marsha Gordon said 180 businesses became new Business Council members in the last year. “Our role is clear: the Business Council must continue to work to create opportunities to help you grow your businesses,” she said.

Christopher O”™Callaghan, board chairman, said the Business Council has nearly 1,200 members, but noted there are 35,000 businesses in Westchester to potentially speak to federal and state officials as a unified voice for business. “We need a sledge hammer to swing to be heard,” he said.
