The company has entered into a pharmacy partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to administer the vaccinations. However, Wakefern did not say which pharmacies will offer the vaccinations, when they would become available or if it would be offering the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.

“We”™re proud to take part in this groundbreaking public health campaign, which could significantly reduce the spread of Covid-19,” Jeffrey Mondelli, vice president of pharmacy, health and beauty at Wakefern, said in a statement. “The federal program is aiming to mass immunize the population throughout the spring of 2021 and our pharmacists are up to the challenge and ready to help our communities.”

The HHS”™ and CDC”™s Pharmacy Partnership Strategy aims to provide vaccine coverage across 60% of pharmacies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The ShopRite chain covers 280 supermarkets in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

ShopRite is the latest supermarket chain to announce it will offer Covid-19 vaccinations. Earlier this month, Ahold Delhaize USA”™s Stop & Shop chain, Big Y Foods, Price Chopper, Tops Friendly Markets and Wegmans Food Markets stated they would also offer these vaccinations.
