Rhinebeck retailer A.L. Stickle Variety Store to close after 76 years

A.L. Stickle Variety Store, a retail staple of Rhinebeck for the past 76 years, has announced it will be closing on May 20.

Opened in 1947 at 13 E. Market St., the family-run business is one of the last independently-owned five-and-dime retailers in the Hudson Valley. In announcing its closure on social media, the store”™s management acknowledged that over the decades it has “business has watched the village evolve and the world change.”

“We”™re looking forward to new adventures, and we”™re grateful for everything the store has given our family,” the management said in its closure announcement. “Thank you to the generations that have passed through these doors. Rhinebeck is a special place. Support your local businesses. Shop local.”
