Framing at Depot Place gets down to business

At Framing at Depot Place in Scarsdale, owner Gary Zaretsky and designer Umberto Calabro aren”™t going to complain about business slowing down due to the recession.

“We are developing a business plan for future success,” Zaretsky said. “Our customers are decorators, homeowner and business people. People who bring us their art and photos love decorating and art. Recognizing our customer”™s interest was the easy part. Now we had to decide on a new product.”

After hitting a few product dead ends, their final choice was original, rare, antique and vintage magazine covers, mostly from the New Yorker, Vogue, Vanity Fair and Harper”™s Bazaar.

“These are the most prestigious, award-winning magazines with covers designed by great illustrators and artist(s) of their time,” Zaretsky said. “Many of these covers are historically significant. To succeed you must invest 100 percent into your goal. It was a big expense stocking two stores with a beautiful inventory, but the shelves must be filled. Only the best magazines with the best illustrations and condition were purchased.”

The business has also revamped its web site,  www.westchesterframing.com, “and now have pictures of most of our collection for people to view or enlarge if needing a closer look. It is important to inform the public that there is great affordable decorative art out there.”
