Plans for former GM site still undecided

Sleepy Hollow officials are still reviewing potential ideas for what to do with the 100-acre former site of a GM plant on the Hudson riverfront.

Roseland Properties L.L.C. of Short Hills, N.J., was to develop a mixed-use project on the property, called Lighthouse Landing, and had spent nearly five years on environmental impact and site plan reviews with the village.

However, a development agreement between General Motors, which still owns the property, and Roseland, was terminated in December. GM claimed that Roseland did not have the finances in place necessary to continue with the project.

Last week, Sleepy Hollow Mayor Phil Zegarelli said the village board was still reviewing its options.

“It”™s in a staying motion,” he said.

Zegarelli has said that several developers are interested in continuing the project, though he has declined to publicly name them.

In 2006, Roseland/GM submitted a final environmental impact statement (FEIS), which proposed 1,250 residential units, 132,000 square feet of retail space and 35,000 square feet of office space.

The village responded by saying the number of residential units should be further reduced to 1,177.

Zegarelli said the developers who expressed interest want to build Lighthouse Landing as a mixed-use development similar to what has already been proposed.

But Zegarelli said last week that the current economic climate could affect how the project moves forward.

“At this point, though, there is nothing new to report,” he said.
