Pizza parlor goes to college
Iona College last month closed on the purchase of a North Avenue pizzeria popular with students in New Rochelle for more than 35 years.
The college paid $935,000 for the 1,200-square-foot Cannone”™s Pizza and Chicken Wings at 654 North Ave. With the deal, Iona controls all of the frontage on that North Avenue block adjoining its New Rochelle campus. College officials are exploring options to develop student housing and other college facilities both on campus and along North Avenue.
The sale of the recently closed pizzeria, whose longtime owner died in August after 36 years in business at that location, was brokered by Goldschmidt & Associates in Scarsdale. Joann Murphy, owner-broker of Ellinghouse & Stacy Inc. in Scarsdale, represented Iona College.
