Home sales jump 24 percent in Hudson Valley

Second-quarter home sales spiked “significantly” in the lower Hudson Valley, according to a marekt report released Monday by the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors, a nonprofit trade association representing more than 9,000 real estate professionals in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties.

Transaction volumes increased 24 percent comparing sales in April through June this year to the same time last year. It was the “highest second quarter posting since 2010,” the report stated.

Westchester County saw a 23.8 percent increase in single-family home sales and a 27.8 percent jump in sales of cooperative units, the report stated. Putnam and Rockland counties gained 10.6 percent and 7.2 percent in single-family home sales, respectively. Orange County sales of single-family house sector jumped 34 percent, the highest percentage increase among the four counties.

The Hudson Gateway Multiple Listing Service reported 3,445 closed residential transactions in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties, an increase from 2,263 closed transactions in the first quarter.

With home sales on the rise, Westchester’s median sale price increased 5 percent to $650,000. Rockland and Putnam counties’ median prices rose 4.8 percent to $395,000 and 2.8 percent to $308,000, respectively.
