Car wash proposed at former site of Poughkeepsie’s Umberto’s Restaurant

A commercial property on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie that has been vacant for four years may finally have a new tenant.

According to a WPDH.com report, the Town of Poughkeepsie Planning Board will be reviewing a plan to convert the building at 2245 South Road into a 5,400-square-foot Splash Car Wash operation. The planning board will review the car wash”™s application on Feb. 16.

The property had been the site of Umberto’s Restaurant, which closed in 2019 after 45 years in business. Stewart’s Shops had submitted a plan to operate a convenience store and gas station at the site, but that application was withdrawn last spring.
