New site guides post-Sandy reconstruction
New York”™s Department of Environmental Conservation will provide a comprehensive website for contractors and homeowners who need guidelines moving forward with post-Hurricane Sandy reconstruction along the coastline.
“Governor Cuomo is committed to helping New Yorkers rebuild and recover after the devastation caused by Sandy,” DEC Commissioner Joe Martens said in a press release. “Construction on or near the coast must follow certain guidelines to be safe and sustainable to make these structures more resilient in future storms. Because DEC wants it to be easy as possible to stabilize, repair and rebuild on New York State coastlines we issued a general permit last year for certain activities.”
Martens added that contractors, local officials and property owners all have a “convenient resource to consult” that will serve as a one stop web service that answers questions on how to begin the rebuilding process.
The website provides not only post-storm reconstruction guidelines, but the page has contact information for the DEC regional permit administrators that can help in the affected areas.
The Hudson River Valley contact is:Â Daniel Whitehead, Regional Permit Administrator, (845) 256-3054.
