Animal rescue group honored

Lexi, one of the Looking Glass Animal Rescue successes.

Looking Glass Animal Rescue has been selected for the 2017 Best of Ridgefield Award in the nonprofit organization category by the Ridgefield Award program. Since its establishment in December 2015, the volunteer-based animal welfare organization has lived by its mission to “save the sick, injured, neglected and abandoned” by saving approximately 250 dogs from euthanasia and placing them into loving homes in the region.

Jody Harris-Stern, co-founder and president of the organization, thanked supporters and neighbors “for giving us the opportunity to fulfill our passion right in our hometown. We are humbled and grateful to have your confidence and look forward to many years together of saving lives and completing families.”

A typical rescue was mixed-breed Lexi, who has been cared for by Harris-Stern. Lexi was rescued from Manhattan and was one of the worst cases of starvation and neglect the organization”™s veterinarian had seen. In addition to being only 22 pounds, she had such a severe vitamin deficiency that she needed injections every week. Now, after gaining about 20 pounds, she has come out of her shell and is no longer afraid when people approach her.

Each year, the Ridgefield Award Program identifies companies or organizations that it believes have achieved exceptional marketing success in their community and business category.
