United we stand
Strategies for the advancement of education were discussed and voted on at The United Way of Westchester and Putnam counties”™ education forum last week at Pace University”™s Lubin Graduate Center in White Plains.
By way of online community assessment survey, the United Way reached out to the public and business leaders for input on core issues in education.
“We wanted to capture the best strategies to make a major impact over the next few years,” said Naomi Adler, president and CEO. “We wanted a collaboration of partners to work with us and today there are childhood and nonprofit experts, school board members and parents here.”
She acknowledged the thousands of survey participants and individuals who weren”™t in the room that morning.
Said Karen Finn, a consultant and event facilitator, “We hope to gain community input to strategize ways United Way will consider implementing to help children achieve results through thoughtful, data-driven processes.”
Breakout sessions and Web technologies were utilized in covering core issues, such as promoting healthy and safe decisions for children and youth and fostering academic success. Electronic voting prioritized top strategies.
The United Way of Westchester and Putnam will host an upcoming personal economics forum April 22 and a health forum later this year.
