The Charter School of Educational Excellence (CSEE) in Yonkers has appointed Dr. Fred Hernandez as its new CEO.

Dr. Fred Hernandez

Students, staff and school trustees welcomed Hernandez, a distinguished educational leader, during a special morning pep rally on Sept. 20 on the high school’s sports field. The event featured musical performances and giveaways for the students as the school community gathered to celebrate this significant occasion.

“Our school has tremendous momentum moving into the new academic year. Our graduating Class of 2024 received more than $9 million in scholarships, and we are beginning a program-enhancement effort that will propel our students to greater heights. We welcome Dr. Hernandez as we begin an exciting new chapter,” said Eduardo LaGuerre, chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Hernandez brings over three decades of experience in education, having served in Yonkers Public Schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator. He has led schools at every level— elementary, middle and high school—transforming their governance, organization, instruction and accountability systems to improve student outcomes.

“This charter school is a remarkable success story and my goal is to empower our students to achieve their greatest potential academically and personally…. said Hernandez.

In addition to his work as an educator, Hernandez is the owner/operator of Cognitiv, LLC, an education consulting firm. He is a dedicated advocate of restorative practices, fostering collaboration among school staff, families and communities to promote student academic and social-emotional growth. His leadership is recognized by multiple community-based organizations and the Child Study Center at Yale University.

Hernandez holds a Doctor of Education degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and he has published works on school planning and management.
