FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA TO SPEAK ON UNIVERSITY PUBLIC RADIO

Sacred Heart University and WSHU Public Radio will host “In Conversation: John Sullivan,” a discussion with former U.S. ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, to discuss his new book, “Midnight in Moscow” at Sacred Heart University’s WSHU Public Radio Broadcast Center’s Stone Family Assembly Hall, 5151 Park Ave., Fairfield, Connecticut, Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Sullivan is a renowned statesman and author who specializes in writing and discussing matters of foreign policy, national security and international commerce. He will be discussing his latest publication, a memoir from his time in Russia. Sullivan was on the diplomatic front lines when Putin invaded Ukraine. His book is a firsthand behind-the-scenes account of how U.S.-Russian relations reached their apex and a playbook for the unfolding confrontation.

Sullivan is a former U.S. deputy secretary of state and is a partner in Mayer Brown’s New York City law offices and co-lead of the firm’s national security practice. He has held senior positions under five presidential administrations in the U.S. Departments of Justice, Defense and Commerce. During President George W. Bush’s first term, he was appointed deputy general counsel of the Defense Department by Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. Before rejoining Mayer Brown in January 2023, he was appointed as the U.S. ambassador to Russia from December 2019 to October 2022. During his tenure, he led the U.S. Embassy through the most tumultuous period for U.S.-Russian relations in modern history.
