FIRM’S VOTING RIGHTS AND ELECTION LAW PRACTICE

David Imamura

Abrams Fensterman LLP has announced that David Imamura has been promoted to partner in the law firm. Imamura co-chairs the political and election law practice group and is a member of the civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense practice groups, working out of the firm’s White Plains office.

“I am thrilled to be a part of a firm that is on the cutting edge of voting rights and election law litigation and am looking forward to growing our practices in those areas,” said

Imamura. He has gained recognition for leading historic voting rights cases under New York’s John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act and he filed the first lawsuit ever under the New York State Voting Rights Act, suing the town of Mount Pleasant for maintaining an election system that dilutes the votes of the town’s Hispanic community and prevents them from electing candidates of their choice. He later filed a second lawsuit against the town of Newburgh, similarly alleging that the town’s election system dilutes the votes of the town’s Black and Hispanic populations.
