Two Rhode Island daily newspapers merge into new publication

Two Northern Rhode Island daily newspapers that date back to the late 19th century have been merged into a new publication.

The Call of Woonsocket and The Times of Pawtucket has become The Blackstone Valley Call & Times. The new newspaper will be published six days a week, with a weekend edition appearing on Saturday. The Call had published on Sundays, but the new newspaper will not be printed on that day.

The Call began in 1892 and had a daily circulation of roughly 6,000 while The Times began in 1885 and had a daily circulation of approximately 4,300. The two newspapers were owned by Triboro Massachusetts News Media and. Jody Boucher, regional publisher for the both publications, told the Providence Business News that the merger was due to rising publication costs for two daily publications coupled with declines in advertising and subscriber revenue. https://pbn.com/call-of-woonsocket-pawtucket-times-to-merge-into-single-publication/

“We remain committed to our readers and the communities the Call and Times serve and will continue to provide content that is local and relevant to both communities in one larger edition,” Boucher said.
