Thomson Reuters to close Valhalla office

After declining to renew its Westchester office lease, Manhattan-based media and information firm Thomson Reuters Corp. will close its Valhalla office next March, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor.

According to the notice, 37 employees will be affected. The company’s senior director of corporate affairs, Noelle Campbell,  said today that  36 workers will be laid off. Valhalla employees not directly affected by the closing have been offered alternative options, she said.

The layoffs will begin Nov. 30. The last day employees will report for work at the 117 E. Stevens Ave. office is Feb. 26.

None of the affected employees are represented by a union, according to the Aug. 20 Labor Department notice. The company will relocate its tax and accounting customer service and financial operations functions.

In a statement, company officials said, “Our team is committed to a smooth transition; ensuring limited disruption to client service and providing strategic guidance and alternative work arrangements for employees currently working from the site.”

Thomson Reuters reported revenues were down 4 percent in its second-quarter results. The company also has offices in Manhattan and Stamford.
