Shoebert the seal is the focus of a new book
A seal who became a local celebrity last September in Beverly, Massachusetts, has become the subject of a new book by three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Stanley Forman and his wife Debbie Forman.
According to an NBC Boston report, “Shoebert”™s Great Adventure” is a children”™s book that highlights the appearance of Shoebert, a gray seal who became a local favorite for nine days in an out-of-sea appearance at Beverly”™s Shoe Pond and a surprise visit to the town”™s police station. The seal was taken to Connecticut”™s Mystic Aquarium for a check-up before being returned the ocean in late September.
“He wooed the crowds,” said Forman. “He mesmerized people, including me. It”™s almost like he smiled at you. He loved the crowd, and the crowd loved him.”
Forman added Shoebert was one of his favorite stories in his 50-plus years of journalism.
