SpikedSeltzer hosts $25K Halloween mermaid costume contest

Norwalk-based SpikedSeltzer is adding a splash of Hollywood glamour to Halloween with a promotional contest featuring a $25,000 custom-tailored mermaid costume created by Academy Award-nominated designer Ruth E. Carter.

Hot off creating costumes for one of the biggest superhero movies of the year, Ruth E. Carter takes inspiration from SpikedSeltzer’s mermaid heroine to design her first-ever mermaid costume.

The costume features a bejeweled crown and cascading blue hair, a netted top accented with seashells, and a shiny chartreuse tail. Carter, whose designed the costumes for this year”™s blockbuster “Black Panther” and previously earned Oscar nominations for her costume designs in “Malcolm X” and “Amistad,” will hold a one-on-one consultation with the contest winner to personalize the mermaid costume for size and style.

“Through this costume, I wanted to imagine SpikedSeltzer’s mermaid icon as the dynamic, alluring, and powerful superhero she is, while also giving the look a little bit of culture since the design was inspired by the brand’s West Indies Lime flavor,” said Carter. “I’m so excited to bring this mermaid costume to life and tailor it to make it unique to the winner’s individuality.”

In order to win the costume, would-be mermaids need to follow @SpikedSeltzer on Instagram and share the sketch of Carter”™s design along with an explanation on why it is crucial to be mermaid this Halloween, while adding the tags #MermaidCrusade and #Contest. The contest runs through Oct. 10.

And for those who don”™t snag the costume, SpikedSeltzer has a consolation contest: share homemade mermaid costumes on the company”™s Instagram page through Nov. 1 for the chance to receive a $10 credit from the ride-sharing service Lyft.
