Chipotle promotion offers up to $1M in free burritos

chipotleChipotle Mexican Grill has launched a national promotion that could result in up to $1 million in free burritos during the remainder of the National Basketball Association (NBA) season.

According to the company, every time an on-air announcer says the word “free” during the official coverage of the NBA championship series, Chipotle will go to its @chipotletweets channel on Twitter and live Tweet a unique code good for the chance to score a free burrito. Each mention of “free” in the first half of each game results in up to 500 free burritos, while each mention of “free” in the second half results in up to 1,000 free burritos. However, the unique good will only be valid to the first 500 users in the first half of the game or the first 1,000 in the second half of the games that text the correct code to 888222. The promotion will be limited to the first 20 on-air mentions of “free” during each game.

“We know that basketball fans are some of the most passionate fans in sports, so we’re putting even more, about one million dollars more, on the line by ‘freeting’ through these final games,” said Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer of Chipotle. “Chipotle has never been easier to access and with Chipotle delivery, you never have to choose between basketball and burritos again.”

Furthermore, Chipotle will be offering free delivery through the NBA championship series on all orders of $10 or more, with a $200 maximum; orders must be placed on either the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com or through DoorDash. The free deliveries will take place every day from May 30 through June 9, and will be extended to June 9, 10, 13 and 16 if the series continues through those days.
